How can large volumes of data and information compiled by scientists all over the world be cataloged and analyzed?

Census of Marine Life scientists are gathering a growing bank of data about marine life. They must analyze and compile this information in a way that makes it easy to understand and useful for the community of ocean scientists. Science is most valid when the results gathered are made as public and accessible as possible. With all the data produced by Census projects, it becomes possible to generate a comprehensive picture of marine biodiversity: past, present, and future.
